Kaseya VSA – Software Management, Compliance Settings

In this video I am going to share a Software Management feature that can help your compliance numbers when on the Dashboard in Kaseya VSA.

Step By Step

  1. When looking at the dashboard within the Software Management module.
  2. The dashboard will give you a peek into compliance. If you’ve looked at this page before, you may think everything is out of compliance. This is due to compliant settings that, by default, only allow a tolerance of 24 hours from patch release before it is considered out of compliance.
  3. On the settings page, you will find a section for compliance with some settings. Let’s go ahead and select Edit.
  4. By default, the scan grace period is 24 hours, and the patch tolerance is 95%.
  5. Let’s say you patch every 7 days. You can change the scan and deploy grace period hours to allow for a 7-day or maybe even a 14-day window to ensure that machines have time to be online during the window and have time to successfully install those patches.
  6. So, I’m going to change the grace period to 14 days, which is 336 hours (since the setting is in hours).
  7. I’m also going to change the patch tolerance to 85%, as I feel that if a machine has 85% of the patches it’s supposed to have, it’s doing good.
  8. After making these changes, go ahead and select Save.
  9. The next scan will take these new numbers into account, and your compliance numbers should look better on the dashboard.

When our NOC Manager left last fall we wanted to replace the position with an outsourced NOC to reduce headcount, and bring in an expert to both Labtech and our backup solutions. Bringing in ProVal Technologies was one of the best decisions we made last year and has paid for itself.During our first few monthly recurring Labtech admin meetings the ProVal team discovered incorrect settings and policies that were not applying correctly in our Labtech server. Things that we thought were automated and working were not. For example, there were multiple scripts and policies running but set to do nothing such as disk cleanup scripts. Cisco Umbrella was not configured correctly. Server alerting was not set right and the list went on.The backup team sends daily and weekly reports and updates that reduce my technicians time that we used to spend on backup or antivirus tickets that took forever and were tedious.ProVal also brings in great insights to our business and really cares about our success. They will frequently mention to me in meetings what new scripts they can import to make us more efficient or will schedule upgrades to our backups, Labtech, etc so I don’t have to worry. We met Vikram from ProVal Tech at Gary Pica’s Shnizzfest a year ago. Vikram explained the advantage of having trained, certified personnel take care of our recent Automate implementation.
