Kaseya VSA: Software Management – Allow users to control patches

In this episode, we are going to show you how to control whether end users can manually check for updates using the new “Windows Update Options” feature in VSSA version 9.52.

Step By Step:

  1. When a Software Management Scan and Analysis Profile is activated on a machine through VSSA, the “Check for Updates” button becomes grayed out, preventing end users from manually checking for updates.
  2. A temporary workaround to re-enable the “Check for Updates” button involves modifying a registry key, but within 24 hours, VSSA will clear that registry key and the button will be grayed out again.
  3. VSSA version 9.52, scheduled for release on September 11th for on-premise and a few days prior for SaaS, will introduce an option in the Scan and Analysis Profile called “Windows Update Options.”
  4. This “Windows Update Options” setting allows you to choose “Yes” or “No” to control whether end users can manually perform a check for updates on their machines.
  5. If you select “Yes,” end users will be able to manually check for updates. If you select “No,” the “Check for Updates” button will be unavailable to them.
  6. After setting this option, apply the Scan and Analysis Profile to the targeted machines to enforce the new update behavior.
  7. Verify that the “Check for Updates” button is either available or grayed out based on your configuration choice, and monitor the system to ensure it works as expected.

When our NOC Manager left last fall we wanted to replace the position with an outsourced NOC to reduce headcount, and bring in an expert to both Labtech and our backup solutions. Bringing in ProVal Technologies was one of the best decisions we made last year and has paid for itself.During our first few monthly recurring Labtech admin meetings the ProVal team discovered incorrect settings and policies that were not applying correctly in our Labtech server. We met Vikram from ProVal Tech at Gary Pica’s Shnizzfest a year ago. Vikram explained the advantage of having trained, certified personnel take care of our recent Automate implementation.
