We’ll be showing you how to create a Software Management Override Profile to address a recent Microsoft issue. We’ll cover the KBs KB5044284, KB5029263, and KB5043076.

Step By Step:

  1. Identify the issue of Windows 10 upgrading to Windows 11 and server versions upgrading unexpectedly.
  2. Determine that KBS are miscategorized as security and cumulative when they are feature upgrades.
  3. Find that some patches use recycled KB numbers that may already be approved in the environment
  4. Recommend creating an override profile using a specific name field and value to set approval status to suppress or review.
  5. Advise against using Auto approve for feature upgrades and suggest using a controlled procedure for patch management.
  6. Recommend blocking the KP numbers of these patches, which can be found in the video notes.

When our NOC Manager left last fall we wanted to replace the position with an outsourced NOC to reduce headcount, and bring in an expert to both Labtech and our backup solutions. Bringing in ProVal Technologies was one of the best decisions we made last year and has paid for itself.During our first few monthly recurring Labtech admin meetings the ProVal team discovered incorrect settings and policies that were not applying correctly in our Labtech server. Things that we thought were automated and working were not. For example, there were multiple scripts and policies running but set to do nothing such as disk cleanup scripts. Cisco Umbrella was not configured correctly.
