ConnectWise RMM: Automatically Assign a Policy

Let’s go over how to automatically assign a policy to a group of machines without having to create local overrides in ConnectWise RMM.

Step by Step:

  1. Today I will be showing you how to automatically assign a package to a group of machines.
  2. This can come in handy whenever you create a special group that you want a certain policy tied to the group of machines without having to create a local override.
  3. Let’s get to it, start of, and go into the settings, and then package.
  4. From here you want to go to policy groups on the top. This will show you all the available policies that you can create an automatic deployment.
  5. From here you just want to select which one you want to create a special group for.
  6. For this example, I’m just going to go ahead and do a simple one just remote access now it gives you two options here the add a group or an existing group.
  7. If you already have created a special group and you have created a group with certain criteria for these certain machines to get automatically populated them or a manual ad you can go simply do the add existing device group.
  8. Now if you do not have one and you want to create it from here all you would have to do is just select add group.
  9. From here it gives you the option to give you the summary name, the group name, and then apply a policy, and then create your own group from within.
  10. Now for this example I’m just going to go ahead and use an existing one that way it’s simple.
  11. We’re going to go in here and it’s going to give you all the available device groups that you guys have.
  12. So, to start off you just want to name this group so this is a test I’m just going to go ahead and hit test, you can always give a description to easily know what this one will do.
  13. From there you want to go into the assigned policy and it will give you all the available policies that is available for the specific group.
  14. Now since I selected the remote access one it’s only going to give me policies that are for remote access.
  15. If you were to select the server policy one it would only give you the server patching policies.
  16. So, from here just select it and hit assign and then go ahead and select a group that you have created.
  17. For example, I’m just going to go ahead and select desktops once it’s selected hit save.
  18. From here on out this policy will be added to all desktops from here.
  19. Now if you want to you know say hey I changed my mind all you have to do is just select this little pencil and then you can make that adjustment from here
  20. Now if you say hey you know what I don’t want to have this policy anymore, you do have to go into the pencil, hit select, remove, hit save and then from here it will allow you to select this trash can and then you are able to delete that policy.
  21. That is how you will automatically set up an automatic deployment of a certain policy to certain machines.

When our NOC Manager left last fall we wanted to replace the position with an outsourced NOC to reduce headcount, and bring in an expert to both Labtech and our backup solutions.
