Need to restrict access for certain clients in ConnectWise Automate? In this Tech Tuesday video, we’ll show you step-by-step how to disable command access and set up redirects. Perfect for MSPs looking to tighten security and enforce access control best practices.
Step By Step:
- Open ConnectWise Automate Control Center.
- Navigate to System > Users and Contacts > User Class Manager.
- Click New to create a new user class (e.g., name it “Demo”).
- Leave permissions blank for now (or configure as needed for your use case).
- Reload the system cache via System > Reload System Cache.
- Open the client where you want to restrict access.
- Go to the Permissions tab for that client.
- Right-click in the User Class field to assign the new user class.
- Select the newly created user class (e.g., “Demo”).
- Grant read-only permissions as needed (e.g., Read Locations, Read Passwords, Access History).
- Do not check: Send Commands” or “Allow Redirect Remote Control”
- Save the changes.
- Any user assigned to this class will now have restricted access.
- The next time they log in, the limited permissions will take effect.
- This setup ensures users can view what they need without having control access.
- Use this approach to safely delegate access for limited-scope team members or external users.
