We will walk you through the process of creating a custom patching group in ConnectWise Automate. This custom configuration allows you to set up different patching setups for specific agents, ideal for clients with unique patching needs.
Step By Step:
- Open the Control Center.
- Go to “Browse” and then navigate to “Groups.”
- In the “Groups” section, select the location where you want to create the new group. In this case, it’s under the “Patching” section.
- Right-click and select “Create Group.”
- Name the group. For this demonstration, it’s called “Demo Patching Group.”
- Choose to create the group as a “Manually Populated” group (this means you won’t use a search or automation to populate the group).
- After naming and selecting your group type, click “Create” to finalize it.
- Once the group is created, close out of this window.
- Open the Patch Manager by going to “Automation” and selecting “Patch Manager.”
- Once the Patch Manager opens, go to “Configuration” in the upper-right corner.
- In the Configuration section, click on the “Group Actions” button.
- Select “Add Existing Group.”
- Scroll down to find the group you just created, in this case, the “Demo Patching Group.”
- Once you find it, click on it to select it, then click “Okay.”
- The group should now appear in the Patch Manager.
- Since this is a custom group, move it to the bottom of the list to ensure the settings apply to the agents.
- Once the group is in place, select the appropriate update policy, reboot policy, and any approval settings you wish to apply just to this group.
- This completes the process of creating a custom patching group in Automate.
