MSP Trends to Watch in 2026: What Will Shape the Industry Next Year

TL;DR – Key Takeaways

  • Clear proof of value through data, reporting, and proactive communication is essential
  • AI and automation are no longer optional for MSPs in 2026 and will be critical for scaling and efficiency
  • Clients expect MSPs to act as strategic partners, not just support vendors

Every year there are new changes to the MSP world, but 2026 is already looking different. The pace of change is speeding up, clients are expecting more, and the tools we rely on are evolving faster than most teams can keep up with. If you’re running or working inside an MSP, you’re probably already feeling that shift.

Here are the MSP trends for 2026 that will shape this industry the most next year and what they mean for your team.

AI Won’t Be Optional Anymore

We’ve all heard the AI buzz for a while now, but in 2026 it becomes normalized, you will no longer wonder if you should use AI, but where to apply it next.

You should see AI do more of the heavy lifting like:

  • Helping service teams identify and resolve issues before they occur
  • Have AI analyze and enable customer interactions
  • Helping techs find answers faster
  • Handling basic troubleshooting before a ticket even opens
  • Turning raw data into something a client can actually understand

The MSPs that win won’t be the ones with “AI magic.” It’ll be the ones who build predictable, repeatable AI processes into the way their teams already work.

Clients Will Want a Partner, Not a Vendor

More MSPs are noticing this shift already. Clients don’t just want issues fixed anymore. They want guidance and someone who understands their business environment, not just their devices. Whether your client is in healthcare, legal, financial services or any other industry, they want to know which tools matter, which ones don’t, and where they should invest next.

Next year, MSPs will see more demand for:

  • Technology road mapping that ties into business goals
  • Help navigating vendor overload
  • Structured QBRs with actionable outcomes
  • Better explanations behind recommendations

Support is still essential, but strategic guidance becomes the real differentiator.

Security Expectations Will Increase

Every year we think security requirements can’t get tighter, and every year they do. Here’s what MSPs should see:

  • More insurance-driven security requirements
  • Clients asking for compliance support
  • Stronger expectations around monitoring and reporting
  • More automation into security layers

Security is no longer a nice addition to an MSP stack. It’s standard.

Automation Is a Necessity

If 2025 was the year of “we should really automate that,” 2026 is the year MSPs need to do it. You can’t scale without it.

Automation will focus on:

  • Repetitive troubleshooting
  • Patching and maintenance
  • Data organization
  • Ticket Routing
  • Eliminating the tasks that burns out your team

Teams that treat automation as ongoing maintenance instead of a one-time project will feel a huge difference in productivity.

Hiring Will Still Be Challenging , But You Can Adjust

Good techs are still hard to find, and probably will be for a while. You can adapt by:

  • Building skill-based internal training
  • Leaning on fractional or outsourced support
  • Creating clearer career paths to retain staff
  • Automating as much Level 1 work as possible

The MSPs that grow will be the ones that develop the people they already have.

Clients Will Expect More Proof of Value

Clients are watching their budgets, and they’re asking MSPs to show real results. In 2026, reporting becomes more than a monthly slide deck.

Clients will expect more insights:

  • What the MSP prevented
  • Which improvements were made
  • How their security posture changed
  • What’s coming next

This just means you need cleaner ticket data, better dashboards and more proactive communication.

Looking at the Year Ahead

The MSPs that thrive in 2026 will be the ones who combine great service with strong automation, solid security and real strategic value. The landscape is shifting quickly, and there’s a lot of opportunities with utilizing AI.

I truly view ProVal as a partner and extension of my team, not as one of my vendors

When our NOC Manager left last fall we wanted to replace the position with an outsourced NOC to reduce headcount, and bring in an expert to both Labtech and our backup solutions. Bringing in ProVal Technologies was one of the best decisions we made last year and has paid for itself.During our first few monthly recurring Labtech admin meetings the ProVal team discovered incorrect settings and policies that were not applying correctly in our Labtech server. Things that we thought were automated and working were not. For example, there were multiple scripts and policies running but set to do nothing such as disk cleanup scripts. Cisco Umbrella was not configured correctly. Server alerting was not set right and the list went on.The backup team sends daily and weekly reports and updates that reduce my technicians time that we used to spend on backup or antivirus tickets that took forever and were tedious.ProVal also brings in great insights to our business and really cares about our success. They will frequently mention to me in meetings what new scripts they can import to make us more efficient or will schedule upgrades to our backups, Labtech, etc so I don’t have to worry. I truly view ProVal as a partner and extension of my team not as one of my vendors.

They will quickly become an extension of your team and your ROI will reflect the results

We have been a long time user of Labtech and had tried for many years to manage the product internally with no real success at the level we needed to make our solutions more efficient for our customers. Once we hired Vikram and his team at ProVal, it solved all our pain points with the product and we really felt like we were leveraging the tool as it was designed. If this sounds like you and it’s keeping you up at night, then you need these guys. They will quickly become an extension of your team and your ROI will reflect the results.

They work well, fast and on budget

We met Vikram from ProVal Tech at Gary Pica’s Shnizzfest a year ago. Vikram explained the advantage of having trained, certified personnel take care of our recent Automate implementation. Even though we had taken an implementation package from ConnectWise to start up the program, we felt many custom configurations we needed for our business were lacking. We hired ProVal Tech after Automate was installed to help us with this task. From sales to technicians everyone was professional and knowledgeable. Onboarding was simple, and well documented. Tools on the web were supplied while we did the work, and they allowed us to track what was done, and see the improvements in the environment. It was easy to reach any of the team members, for any concern or question – all answered with courtesy and smile. Once the work was finished, we were given some training and explanations, add to that documentation, about the work and the scripts and features added to the program. We have been happily working with Automate since then. We can only recommend this efficient team of people for any work into Automate: they work well, fast and on budget.
