For the MSP that has just switched to the ConnectWise family of products, or those that are beginning to use additional ConnectWise products or are expanding their use of ConnectWise Automate, managing multiple logins for each tool can quickly become a hassle. To solve this problem, ConnectWise added Single Sign-On (SSO), which, when configured correctly, allows all users to access multiple applications with a single login. Today, we will discuss how to set up SSO for users signing into Automate.
Prerequisites for Using ConnectWise SSO with Automate
To use SSO with Automate, your ConnectWise Home account must match the Automate user’s email. A Home admin must create this account. After creation, update the user’s application access to include your Automate instance. The CW Home user acts as the central SSO account, linking additional products as your users grow..
Setting Up SSO in ConnectWise Automate

After creating and linking the ConnectWise Home account to the appropriate Automate user, configure ConnectWise Automate for SSO.
Navigate to the Authentication Settings
to link users to their respective Home accounts. To do this, navigate to Config > Authentication in the system dashboard.

Create a User Group Folder (Optional)
Here you can turn on SSO and select the user folders that you want to link. Should you want to limit SSO to a specific set of users, you can create a new group folder by going to System > Users and Contacts > Users, right-clicking on Users and selecting Create New.

Enable Local Login (Optional)
Also, note the checkbox for “allow local logins…”. Enabling this option allows users to use their local Automate account credentials after SSO is set up for their account. If CW SSO goes down, this ensures SSO users can still log in.
Generate the Setup Token
Next, generate a setup token in the ConnectWise portal to link your Automate instance to your Home account. You must use the same ConnectWise Home account when linking all your applications to ensure that SSO works properly. A link below the local login checkbox will take you to generate the code. Once you enter the token and click save, you will be prompted to invite users.

Invite Users to Use ConnectWise SSO
In the Invite User window, confirm user folders, then submit invitations to manage them in your ConnectWise Home account.
User Acceptance and Setup Completion

After accepting the invite, users will see a prompt to link their account to SSO upon logging in From there they can sign into their CW Home account and SSO will be successfully set up.
