CW RMM vs Ninja RMM: Which RMM Suits Your MSP Business?

When it comes to choosing a Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tool, Managed Service Providers (MSPs) need a platform that excels in performance, scalability, and ease of use. ConnectWise RMM (CW RMM) and Ninja RMM are two of the most popular options available, each offering unique features and benefits. In this article, we’ll break down the features, performance, and ease of use of both platforms, along with best practices for transitioning between RMM solutions.

When choosing between ConnectWise RMM and Ninja RMM, it’s important to evaluate the key features and benefits that each platform offers. Both tools provide robust capabilities, but they cater to different needs depending on the size and complexity of your MSP business. Here’s a look at the standout features of each solution to help you make an informed decision.

ConnectWise RMM Features

CW RMM offers a comprehensive set of tools designed to help MSPs manage their client systems effectively. Here are some of the standout features:

  • Automation with Scripting: CW RMM scripting allows MSPs to automate routine tasks such as patch management, system checks, and network optimizations. This increases efficiency and reduces manual intervention.
  • Remote Support: With ConnectWise Screen Connect, MSPs can provide seamless remote support. This feature is integrated directly into the platform, enabling easy troubleshooting and quick resolutions for client issues.
  • Monitoring and Alerts: ConnectWise RMM offers real-time device monitoring and customizable alerts. You can set up role-based monitoring to ensure the right devices receive the correct checks, making it easier to manage systems proactively.
  • Scalability: Designed for MSPs who handle a large volume of clients, ConnectWise RMM admin tools provide the scalability necessary to manage large deployments without compromising performance.

Ninja RMM is known for its user-friendly interface and straightforward design, but it still packs powerful features:

  • User-Friendly Interface: The Ninja RMM dashboard is intuitive and easy to navigate, making it ideal for MSPs with less technical expertise or those who want to minimize training time.
  • Patch Management: Ninja RMM excels in patch management, offering automatic patch deployment with a high level of efficiency. Ninja’s streamlined approach and user-friendly setup makes it a standout in this category, offering more flexibility in managing updates.
  • Third-Party Integrations: Both ConnectWise and Ninja RMM offer a variety of third-party integrations, but neither solution offers a complete set of integrations. Both systems are comparable in this area, and the decision often comes down to the specific tools and software in your tech stack.
  • Remote Monitoring: Ninja RMM allows remote access to client systems, enabling troubleshooting and issue resolution. While it’s not feature-rich as ConnectWise Screen Connect, Ninja RMM does integrate with Screen Connect, so MSPs who prefer the power of Screen Connect can still utilize it within their Ninja environment.

ConnectWise RMM is built to scale with your business. It can handle large deployments and high workloads, making it an ideal choice for MSPs with numerous clients and devices. With a cloud-based architecture, ConnectWise RMM offers high availability and low latency, ensuring systems remain operational even during peak demand times.

Ninja RMM is quick and responsive, particularly suited for small to medium-sized MSPs. Its streamlined interface ensures fast data retrieval and minimal lag. While Ninja RMM is generally reliable, it may face challenges in high-demand environments when compared to ConnectWise RMM, especially as your business grows.

Ease of use is crucial, especially if you want to minimize the learning curve for your team. With a user-friendly interface, your team can spend less time learning the platform and more time bringing value to clients. A simple, intuitive system can enhance efficiency and productivity, making it easier for MSPs to manage their operations and respond to client needs quickly. In today’s fast-paced environment, MSPs need tools that not only perform well but also allow their teams to get up to speed with minimal downtime. Here’s a breakdown:

ConnectWise RMM is a feature-rich platform, which means there is a steeper learning curve, more for administrators who need to configure complex workflows, monitoring, and automation. One of the strengths of ConnectWise RMM is its deep level of customization. MSPs can tailor workflows and automation using ConnectWise RMM scripting, offering flexibility that goes beyond the basics.

Ninja RMM excels in simplicity with its clean, easy-to-navigate dashboard. It’s designed for MSPs who want to get up and running quickly with minimal training required. Ninja RMM offers a streamlined setup process, which makes it a great option for MSPs who want a quick deployment and don’t need extensive customization. Ninja RMM’s simplicity doesn’t come at the expense of functionality; it has a perfect balance for businesses that prioritize efficiency without needing extensive customization.

Comparison

If your priority is simplicity and a quick setup, Ninja RMM stands out as the more user-friendly option, offering a fast deployment and an interface that’s easy for your team to grasp. On the other hand, if you require greater customization, advanced features, and flexibility to manage more complex environments, ConnectWise RMM provides a more powerful solution.

If you’re considering switching RMM’s, here are some best practices to ensure a smooth migration:

  1. Plan Your RMM Migration: Backup all client data and carefully test the migration in stages to avoid disruptions. Whether you’re moving to ConnectWise RMM or Ninja RMM, consider using the scripting and automation features available in both platforms to streamline the transition.
  2. Train Your Team: Ensure your team understands the ins and outs of ConnectWise RMM admin tools, including ConnectWise Screen Connect for remote troubleshooting. As for Ninja RMM, focus on its user-friendly interface, automation features, and integration with third-party tools to ensure your team can manage tasks efficiently.
  3. Consult an Expert: If you need assistance with migration, consider hiring Ninja RMM or ConnectWise consulting services. Experts can help streamline the setup and configuration process.
  4. Utilize Automation: Once the migration is complete, take full advantage of ConnectWise RMM scripting or Ninja RMM’s automation tools to streamline tasks and improve overall efficiency.

Choosing between ConnectWise RMM and Ninja RMM depends on your MSP’s needs. ConnectWise RMM is ideal for businesses requiring scalability, advanced automation, and robust remote support. On the other hand, Ninja RMM excels in ease of use, quick setup, and efficient patch management, making it perfect for smaller MSPs or those prioritizing simplicity.

I truly view ProVal as a partner and extension of my team, not as one of my vendors

When our NOC Manager left last fall we wanted to replace the position with an outsourced NOC to reduce headcount, and bring in an expert to both Labtech and our backup solutions. Bringing in ProVal Technologies was one of the best decisions we made last year and has paid for itself.During our first few monthly recurring Labtech admin meetings the ProVal team discovered incorrect settings and policies that were not applying correctly in our Labtech server. Things that we thought were automated and working were not. For example, there were multiple scripts and policies running but set to do nothing such as disk cleanup scripts. Cisco Umbrella was not configured correctly. Server alerting was not set right and the list went on.The backup team sends daily and weekly reports and updates that reduce my technicians time that we used to spend on backup or antivirus tickets that took forever and were tedious.ProVal also brings in great insights to our business and really cares about our success. They will frequently mention to me in meetings what new scripts they can import to make us more efficient or will schedule upgrades to our backups, Labtech, etc so I don’t have to worry. I truly view ProVal as a partner and extension of my team not as one of my vendors.

They will quickly become an extension of your team and your ROI will reflect the results

We have been a long time user of Labtech and had tried for many years to manage the product internally with no real success at the level we needed to make our solutions more efficient for our customers. Once we hired Vikram and his team at ProVal, it solved all our pain points with the product and we really felt like we were leveraging the tool as it was designed. If this sounds like you and it’s keeping you up at night, then you need these guys. They will quickly become an extension of your team and your ROI will reflect the results.

They work well, fast and on budget

We met Vikram from ProVal Tech at Gary Pica’s Shnizzfest a year ago. Vikram explained the advantage of having trained, certified personnel take care of our recent Automate implementation. Even though we had taken an implementation package from ConnectWise to start up the program, we felt many custom configurations we needed for our business were lacking. We hired ProVal Tech after Automate was installed to help us with this task. From sales to technicians everyone was professional and knowledgeable. Onboarding was simple, and well documented. Tools on the web were supplied while we did the work, and they allowed us to track what was done, and see the improvements in the environment. It was easy to reach any of the team members, for any concern or question – all answered with courtesy and smile. Once the work was finished, we were given some training and explanations, add to that documentation, about the work and the scripts and features added to the program. We have been happily working with Automate since then. We can only recommend this efficient team of people for any work into Automate: they work well, fast and on budget.
