ProVal has been working on CW RMM for about one year at this point. Over the last year, we have seen a lot of improvements to ConnectWise RMM/Asio. Many of these improvements have been key to CW RMM’s functionality and ease of use. In this article we’ll cover some of the enhancements we’ve noticed as users and administrators. We’ll also share some of our wish-list as we approach 2025.
ConnectWise RMM 2025 Progress
CW RMM/Asio has had a great year. It got off to a rocky start, but many of the larger pain points to leveraging and managing the tool have been improving. Here are some of our key changes and why we like them.
Patching
We’ve seen great movement in patching, patch reporting, and patching capabilities in CW RMM this year. Specifically, the RMM system dashboard returning to the menu system, the ability to filter in support vs out of support machines, improving the feature update deployment, adding OS upgrades, and improving the patch reboot prompt system.
Reporting
Several of the built-in reports have been replaced with updated datasets and with new automation. Specifically, the updated agent report has been nice to have. There are a lot more columns available for exports and it’s relatively easy to remove offline agents. (We would still like to see more Automation around retiring offline agents. It would also be nice to be able to do a “days since last contact” instead of a hard date.) We’ve also seen a large improvement in the data between BrightGauge and CW RMM. The data matches more reliably between the two systems.
Tasks/Scripting
We’ve seen a lot more stability in the script engine recently. Scripts run more reliably (especially against groups), report data back more readily, and it’s become easier to review failing tasks on a regular basis. (We would still like to see more reporting around tasks and their successes/failures.) We’ve learned more about the output into the custom fields, how to store the data properly and interact with that data properly. Adding the client/site custom fields really improved script functionality for software deployments, and other “site key” specific deployments.
Packages/Policies
Packages and policies have largely stayed the same, but more and more solutions have been brought to the packages and policies level. Helping MSPs get more standardized with their deployments. There have been more policies available than last year for accomplishing more tasks in the system. Allowing for site-based policies for PSA integration made it much easier to granularly control the PSA integrations. We would like to see more and more policies built into the packages in the future.
Network Monitoring
ConnectWise released their network monitoring and advanced network monitoring offerings in CW RMM. (Auvik is essentially the network monitoring tool for CW RMM now if you missed it!) It rolled in rather seamlessly to CW RMM. Maybe a bit too seamless as many partners seem to still need help grasping all it can do for them. None-the-less, a great and powerful addition to CW RMM. We also appreciate the granular controls for enabling advanced features on the policies for partners.
Monitoring
There have been more monitors added to CW RMM This year. And more and more monitors are becoming available through integration. (Where applicable.) One key feature that we’re big fans of is that custom monitors will now show their monitor’s name in the subject line in the notification. This helps track down what triggered the monitor, making it more useful to the engineers reviewing the ticket.
ConnectWise RMM Enhancements For 2025
As mentioned above, 2024 was a great year for CW RMM. Many important improvements and enhancements have been added to the system. But as we all know, there is always room for improvement. Here are some of the feature enhancements we would like to see for 2025 in RMM.
Agent Deployment
Agent deployment is generally, not the most enjoyable of topics, but one that is incredibly important to an MSPs success. The deployment tool does help, but it’s still more of a manual process. We would like to see something that will make agent deployment easier through RMM. Maybe some sort of Entra/Active Directory integration that watches for new machines on the domain/network? Something that will more reliably deploy agents would really help MSPs out.
Reporting
CW RMM is gathering a lot of information about devices. Tons and tons of it! We would like to see more and more access to this data via RMM or BrightGauge. Right now, we don’t always have access to view or use some of this data, which can make simple things like building a device group troublesome when a specific criterion is missing. (Of course, you can write your own Automation for that, build out your own custom group based on that data, etc…) If there is already a filter for it, there should be a device group filter that matches. (looking at you, patch compliance filters!) We would also like to see more reporting about the system itself. How things are configured, how tasks are running, are automated fixes working properly? Questions like that would help RMM administrators with their systems.
Monitoring
We did praise monitoring above, but there is still one large factor missing… and that is customization. Yes, it’s nice that we can include the name of the monitor in the subject line. But I want to create my own subject line for my custom monitor. I also want to be able to customize the body of that ticket before my team sees it. This isn’t a make or break, but it really does diminish the usefulness of the custom monitoring system.
Tasks/Scripting
One thing missing from tasks is the ability to interact with tickets in any way/shape/form. We would love to see the ability to interact with tickets from the scripting engine. Open them, close them, change statuses, update tickets, write custom ticket bodies and subject lines, etc. We think it would be very useful to be able to do this as we’ve been leveraging these features in other RMMs for years. We would also like to see some basic email functionality. Right now, we can only email via notification rules. We would like to see more and do more with emails as well.
Integrations
There are some cool integrations available for ConnectWise RMM 2025! We have seen more come in throughout the year, but not all of them have been very reliable so far. I’ve turned on integrations several times, found them to not be working properly, reached out to support, and found it had to go back to engineering to get repaired. Not just in one system, this has been in several. Sometimes they do work! There doesn’t seem to be any real pattern, but sometimes the integrations do not work. If they do not function as expected, there is no recourse but to wait for ConnectWise to fix it. We would like to see the integrations become more stable and usable in CW RMM. We would also like to see more and more tools integrating with CW RMM.
ConnectWise RMM Final Thoughts
As mentioned above, CW RMM has had a great 2024. A lot of new features have been released or fixed, and the tool is doing more than ever. There are still a few little things we would like to see changed or operating differently! But all-in-all, it was a good year for CW RMM. Thank you for reading! Are you using CW RMM?
