What are the differences between Kaseya VSA and Datto RMM?

Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) is a critical component for MSPs to effectively monitor and manage client endpoints, networks, and computers remotely and proactively, ensuring smooth operations and maximum uptime for clients. Kaseya VSA and Datto RMM are both options to consider when deciding which to use for your MSP. Below you will find a brief overview of each, along with their main differences.

Which solution should I choose?

Kaseya VSA and Datto RMM are renowned for their comprehensive IT management solutions. Kaseya’s edge lies in its robust scripting and automation, ideal for complex, large-scale networks. It provides deep network visibility, but its UI can be a tad overwhelming. Conversely, Datto RMM shines with an intuitive interface and seamless integration with Autotask PSA, making it an excellent choice for MSPs prioritizing ease-of-use and streamlined workflows. However, it might not be as feature-rich as Kaseya. Your choice between the two should hinge on your network complexity and user-friendliness requirements.

Pricing: Both solutions offer scalable pricing models that align with the size and needs of your MSP. However, specifics can vary and it’s recommended to reach out to each provider for a detailed quote.

Scalability: Both platforms are designed with scalability in mind. Kaseya VSA’s robust functionality scales well for large, complex networks, while Datto RMM’s user-friendliness supports scaling without adding complexity.

Security Features: Both providers offer solid security features, with Kaseya VSA offering more in-depth, customizable settings for large networks. Datto RMM is well-regarded for its secure remote access features.

Training and Support: Datto RMM is known for its strong customer support and ample training resources. Kaseya VSA also provides substantial support and training, but due to its complex nature, there might be a steeper learning curve.

Compliance: Both platforms offer features to help MSPs maintain compliance, though specifics will depend on the regulatory requirements of your clients.

Reporting capabilities: Kaseya VSA’s in-depth analytics and reporting are highly customizable and suitable for MSPs needing specific, detailed reports. Datto RMM also provides comprehensive reporting, though with fewer customization options.

Automation Capabilities: Kaseya VSA shines in its advanced automation capabilities, particularly beneficial for managing complex tasks. Datto RMM offers straightforward automation features, great for routine tasks and less complicated environments.

Third-party Integrations: Both platforms integrate with numerous third-party tools, with Datto RMM notably integrating well with Autotask PSA. The best fit here depends on the other tools your MSP utilizes.

Pros and Cons

Kaseya VSA

Pros:

  • Advanced scripting and automation: It’s an absolute powerhouse for intricate network setups.
  • Extensive integrations: Provides a cohesive IT ecosystem by integrating with various third-party tools.
  • Deep-dive analytics: Offers in-depth insights for precise control.

Cons:

  • Learning curve: It may be complex for novices due to its comprehensive features.
  • UI Design: Its interface, while functional, isn’t as user-friendly as some competitors.

Datto RMM

Pros:

  • User-friendly interface: It’s easy to navigate, making it great for teams new to RMM.
  • Integration with Autotask PSA: This enhances efficiency, particularly for MSPs.
  • Quality customer support: Datto is well-regarded for its responsive service.

Cons:

  • Limited advanced features: It may not meet the needs of highly complex networks.
  • Less customization: Compared to Kaseya, Datto RMM offers less room for tailoring to specific needs.

Which is right for my team?

In conclusion, both Kaseya VSA and Datto RMM offer significant value, but the deciding factor will often be the specific requirements and skill levels of your IT team. If your operations require more advanced functionality and you have a team that’s adept at managing complex scripts, Kaseya VSA may offer a more fitting solution. On the other hand, if your organization heavily relies on Autotask PSA or has a smaller IT team that would benefit from an intuitive, user-friendly interface, Datto RMM could be the more suitable choice. Importantly, both platforms are dedicated to continually improving and expanding their services, aligning with ever-evolving IT environments. Therefore, monitoring the ongoing updates and enhancements from both providers will be beneficial for making an informed decision.

I truly view ProVal as a partner and extension of my team, not as one of my vendors

When our NOC Manager left last fall we wanted to replace the position with an outsourced NOC to reduce headcount, and bring in an expert to both Labtech and our backup solutions. Bringing in ProVal Technologies was one of the best decisions we made last year and has paid for itself.During our first few monthly recurring Labtech admin meetings the ProVal team discovered incorrect settings and policies that were not applying correctly in our Labtech server. Things that we thought were automated and working were not. For example, there were multiple scripts and policies running but set to do nothing such as disk cleanup scripts. Cisco Umbrella was not configured correctly. Server alerting was not set right and the list went on.The backup team sends daily and weekly reports and updates that reduce my technicians time that we used to spend on backup or antivirus tickets that took forever and were tedious.ProVal also brings in great insights to our business and really cares about our success. They will frequently mention to me in meetings what new scripts they can import to make us more efficient or will schedule upgrades to our backups, Labtech, etc so I don’t have to worry. I truly view ProVal as a partner and extension of my team not as one of my vendors.

They will quickly become an extension of your team and your ROI will reflect the results

We have been a long time user of Labtech and had tried for many years to manage the product internally with no real success at the level we needed to make our solutions more efficient for our customers. Once we hired Vikram and his team at ProVal, it solved all our pain points with the product and we really felt like we were leveraging the tool as it was designed. If this sounds like you and it’s keeping you up at night, then you need these guys. They will quickly become an extension of your team and your ROI will reflect the results.

They work well, fast and on budget

We met Vikram from ProVal Tech at Gary Pica’s Shnizzfest a year ago. Vikram explained the advantage of having trained, certified personnel take care of our recent Automate implementation. Even though we had taken an implementation package from ConnectWise to start up the program, we felt many custom configurations we needed for our business were lacking. We hired ProVal Tech after Automate was installed to help us with this task. From sales to technicians everyone was professional and knowledgeable. Onboarding was simple, and well documented. Tools on the web were supplied while we did the work, and they allowed us to track what was done, and see the improvements in the environment. It was easy to reach any of the team members, for any concern or question – all answered with courtesy and smile. Once the work was finished, we were given some training and explanations, add to that documentation, about the work and the scripts and features added to the program. We have been happily working with Automate since then. We can only recommend this efficient team of people for any work into Automate: they work well, fast and on budget.
