“So, what is the best RMM today?” A question that has been circulating within the Managed Service Provider (MSP) arena since the beginning of time and although it seems like there will never be a clear winner, we have decided to share our thoughts as we head into 2024!

After having worked with hundreds of MSPs worldwide, here’s our breakdown of the top 5 best players in the RMM space today:

 1. ConnectWise Automate:

ConnectWise Automate is still one of the most powerful and customizable RMMs on the market today. Although the learning curve may be steep and the product a bit older, we still feel like this tool has it all.

  • Pros:
    • Comprehensive Automation: ConnectWise Automate excels in automating routine tasks, saving time and effort.
    •  Scalability: It’s suitable for businesses of all sizes, from small enterprises to large corporations.
    • Third-Party Integrations: Offers seamless integration with various third-party applications and tools.
  • Cons:
    • Learning Curve: The platform has a steep learning curve, requiring significant time and training to master.
    • Usability/interface: While feature-rich, UI/UX can prove to be a bit lacking in this day and age.

2. NinjaRMM:

NinjaRMM is a RMM that has recently been taking the industry by storm. This tool is just as powerful as it is easy to use, with the added benefit of built-in ticketing, data protection, and IT documentation services.

  • Pros:
    • Cloud-Based: Being a cloud-based solution, NinjaRMM ensures easy accessibility and scalability.
    • User-Friendly: Known for its simple and user-friendly interface.
    • Cost-Effective: Often considered a cost-effective solution for small to mid-sized businesses.
  • Cons:
    • Advanced Features: Lacks some advanced features that larger enterprises might require.
    • Integration Options: While it integrates with various applications, the options might be limited compared to some competitors.

3. Kaseya VSA:

Kaseya VSA has always been a solid option and has stood the test of time offering a robust set of features that are powerful enough to handle every scenario your MSP will encounter.

  • Pros:
    • Comprehensive Feature Set: Kaseya VSA offers an extensive set of features, covering various IT management needs.
    • Automation: Strong automation capabilities to streamline tasks and workflows.
    • Scalability: Scales well for both small businesses and large enterprises.
  • Cons:
    • Complexity: Similar to ConnectWise, Kaseya VSA can be complex, requiring time for training and implementation.
    • Pricing/Contract terms: Pricing may be on the higher end if you are not locked into a long-term contract.

 4. Datto RMM:

Datto RMM is a cloud-based single platform that is known for its ease of use and intuitive interface while still being capable enough to handle the day-to-day.

  • Pros:
    • User-Friendly Interface: It’s easy to navigate, making it great for teams new to RMM.
    • Quality customer support: Datto is well regarded for its responsive service.
    • Patch Management: Excellent patch management features to keep systems up to date.
  • Cons:
    • Limited Automation: Some users report that the automation features could be more advanced.
    • Reporting: Advanced reporting features might be lacking compared to some competitors.

5. ConnectWise RMM:

ConnectWise RMM is the newest member of the ConnectWise ecosystem, built upon the Asio platform which offers an easy-to-use UI/UX as well as out-of-the-box automation.

  • Pros:
    • User-Friendly Interface: Easy to understand and ready to use out of the box.
    • Automaton: Process-oriented ‘done for you’ automation
  • Cons:
    • Customization: Currently lacking
    • Less access to data and reporting
    • Pricing: May run you a tad bit higher than other RMMs mentioned

In the ever-evolving landscape of RMMs, choosing the ‘best’ is ultimately the one that will align seamlessly with your MSP’s specific needs and operational style. Whether you’re prioritizing automation, cost-effectiveness, or scalability, the ideal RMM is the one that empowers your team and enhances your overall efficiency. So, explore, test, and find the perfect fit that not only meets the demands of today but paves the way for your MSP’s success in the future.

What are the 5 best RMMs for MSPs heading into 2024?

I truly view ProVal as a partner and extension of my team, not as one of my vendors

When our NOC Manager left last fall we wanted to replace the position with an outsourced NOC to reduce headcount, and bring in an expert to both Labtech and our backup solutions. Bringing in ProVal Technologies was one of the best decisions we made last year and has paid for itself.During our first few monthly recurring Labtech admin meetings the ProVal team discovered incorrect settings and policies that were not applying correctly in our Labtech server. Things that we thought were automated and working were not. For example, there were multiple scripts and policies running but set to do nothing such as disk cleanup scripts. Cisco Umbrella was not configured correctly. Server alerting was not set right and the list went on.The backup team sends daily and weekly reports and updates that reduce my technicians time that we used to spend on backup or antivirus tickets that took forever and were tedious.ProVal also brings in great insights to our business and really cares about our success. They will frequently mention to me in meetings what new scripts they can import to make us more efficient or will schedule upgrades to our backups, Labtech, etc so I don’t have to worry. I truly view ProVal as a partner and extension of my team not as one of my vendors.

They will quickly become an extension of your team and your ROI will reflect the results

We have been a long time user of Labtech and had tried for many years to manage the product internally with no real success at the level we needed to make our solutions more efficient for our customers. Once we hired Vikram and his team at ProVal, it solved all our pain points with the product and we really felt like we were leveraging the tool as it was designed. If this sounds like you and it’s keeping you up at night, then you need these guys. They will quickly become an extension of your team and your ROI will reflect the results.

They work well, fast and on budget

We met Vikram from ProVal Tech at Gary Pica’s Shnizzfest a year ago. Vikram explained the advantage of having trained, certified personnel take care of our recent Automate implementation. Even though we had taken an implementation package from ConnectWise to start up the program, we felt many custom configurations we needed for our business were lacking. We hired ProVal Tech after Automate was installed to help us with this task. From sales to technicians everyone was professional and knowledgeable. Onboarding was simple, and well documented. Tools on the web were supplied while we did the work, and they allowed us to track what was done, and see the improvements in the environment. It was easy to reach any of the team members, for any concern or question – all answered with courtesy and smile. Once the work was finished, we were given some training and explanations, add to that documentation, about the work and the scripts and features added to the program. We have been happily working with Automate since then. We can only recommend this efficient team of people for any work into Automate: they work well, fast and on budget.
